Nicolai throughout the years...

1/05/96: the young, hopeful idealist...

9/09/96: He makes work his fun...even parties....

A candid relaxed moment...

10/31/03: No longer a callow youth, he find himself among kindred spirits...

Enigmatic, yet still humble...

9/11/06: our seasoned "street warrior", much as he looks today...

...yet not as troubled as he would become a year later.

Ecstacy for Men and Women--through Citizen Radio

By 1994 Nicolai had already made a name for himself in the wild west of citizen radio. In an interview with Roy Davis, he explains the triumphs and frustrations of this pioneering field:

NICO HAUPT. Ekstase for Men and Women.

No mere dilettante, was our Nicolai. The technical "know-how", an intrinsic "do-it-yourself" ethic, is apparent in all of Herr. Haupt's creative endeavorers. Which evokes further questions of his current projects: is someone this talented, the creative, this versatile likely to remain a "solo operator"? Or is he likely to graduated to managing larger projects, directing others like him in a greater plan?

Nicolai certainly has the basic raw talent and capability. But the question is does he have the raw ambition? Or are these idle questions? Could it be that he has been thrust into "greatness" so to speak, irrespective of his personal ambitions?

Our investigation into this fascinating personality in the center of the 9/11 Truth Movement continues.

Netzkraut RadioShow

Netzkraut literally translates as "net herb", perhaps "net weed", and all the colorful associations that evokes. It's a somewhat whimsical name to chose for a radio show. But, as we have seen before, calling our friend Nicolai "whimsical" would be an understatement.

The Netzkraut RadioShow aired from 1989 to 1999 and had Nicolai's unique mix of of irreverence, madness and creativity as can be seen in this playlist from 1997:

Max Planck High School--for the serious Deuselfdorf teen

We go even further back in time, and find Nicolai in the center of the adolescent maelstrom of high school. However, Max Panck Gymnasium is no ordinary high school. The young men and women who make up their student body are more than a cut above the average. It is a high school for the intellectual gods and goddesses of their time, those who aspire to be the leading scientists and artists of their age:

http://www.max-planck.com/profil/index.html

In the words of Stateside educators, this is a place for the "Talented and gifted", those who have the motivation and ambition to pursue dreams beyond their peers. And it is among this company that we find Nicolai, in the class of 1988:

http://www.max-planck.com/menschen/ehemalige/abi88.html

So already by his adolescence Nicolai was recognized as one of the more talented of his peers, though it would take almost a decade for his talents to blossom in what he would become known best for: computer and video manipulation.

CHANCE 2000 : Nico's chance to change the world

Going back even further in time, we find our idealist iconaclast in the late 90's helping the Quixotic political campaign of German artist, Christoph Schlingensieff and his party, "Chance 2000".

As chairman of said party Nicolai had this to say:

http://www.duesseldorf.heimat.de/netzkraut/nico.html

Certainly this was a time of euphoria and high spirits, as Nicolai, with his friend Matrin Kinnen, felt they were on the edge of changing the world. His idealizm is obvious for all to see, ang his passion had yet to be dulled by the future cynicism of destructive alliances. Though Nico has dismissed this part of his life as an"art experiement", it is suspected the failure of Chance 2000 affected him deeply, throwing a darker, more serious cast to his demeanor and future activism in general.

Perhaps it brings him some comfort in these troubled days to think back on those glorious moments with good friends certain they would change the world.

Karazona Cinar -- not exciting enough for Nicolai?

Let us skip ahead a couple of years, to early summer of 2003. Much to our surprise, we find our friend Nicolai gainfully employed, at White Furniture. But he has not shrugged off his taste for the flamboyant. Indeed, his new employer, a Turkish immigrant, Karazona Cinar, has more than an eccentric streak himself, though perhaps not to quite the extreme as Nicolai's last one:

The store is one of three in the immediate vicinity run by White furniture, a business that adds up in all the unexpected and satisfying ways that define New York and forever make the citys prospects seem a little brighter even in a time when the decline seems palpable.

White is the creation of Karazona Cinar -- the downtown Robin Hood of vintage furniture -- and his merry band of hip misfits who have collectively managed to build a thriving low-cost manufacturer of high end furniture in New Yorks recessionary service economy.

Theres nobody in this business doing what Karazona is doing, says Bert Oullette a furniture bounty-hunter who arrived on Friday with a truck-full of chairs and credenzas by famed designer Florence Knoll which he had salvaged from an office building in Canada.

Cinar, who has also had success as an East Village restauranteur, recognized the growing appetite for modern designs when a friend offered to buy his dining room table in 1997 a table he had acquired at the Salvation Army. Shortly thereafter, he launched a small used furniture store called Lollipop out of his home on Essex Street.

In 1999, he moved the business to White Street just east of Broadway, hired designers, and began manufacturing his own versions of classic pieces by the likes of Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, and Isamu Noguchi.

From the beginning, he was able to undercut the market -- which was dominated by furniture boutiques selling original pieces or higher cost Italian imitations and still make money.

The industry was kidnapped by art galleries and museums, says the 37-year-old Kurdish immigrant from Turkeys troubled Tunceli province. They think this is only for a furniture elite. We want to bring this design to the public at the lowest price possible.

http://www.ryanbros.com/archives/2003/05/karazona_walkin.html

Certainly this looks quite the creative venture, though, by the standards of pseudo.com, almost pedestrian, even "square". Would there be enough stimulation to capture and keep the interest of our iconoclastic German emigre? What would he do in a furniture venture, however cutting edge?

Again, he turned to the world of computers that would figure in his future so much:

Behind his desk, Cinar has a green bumper sticker emblazoned with “Kurdistan.” When asked if he was involved in the conflict, he says “every poor kid in Turkey was involved.”

A question about the United States invasion of Iraq draws a thoughtful crowd: Cinar, Nico Haupt, a chain smoking German who is in charge of the company’s computers, and an idealistic young native of Istanbul who says he is against all war. Judging from geography alone, there would be reason to expect conflicting points of view. There are not.

Cinar announces surprisingly that he is “a kurd who was against the war.”

Observe the independent iconoclast, juxtaposed, perhaps trapped, between the worlds of politics and art. We can only speculate, but, almost two years following to tragedy of September 11th, it is doubtful his unbridled free spirit could tolerate even the mild restrictions imposed by mundane employment in a furniture store. It is possible that this seething frustration is what catapulted Nicolai into the heart of the 9/11 Truth Movement.

Nico Haupt--the Albatross of 9/11 Truth?

Love him or hate him, Nico Haupt has left his mark on the Truth movement for posterity, for better or for worse. Few 9/11 activists are unaware of his antics: his insistent promotion of "no planes" and Video fakery, his attacks on other Truthers who don't agree with him--which is the bulk of the movement, and his obsession with Urantia and other alleged cults within the Truth movement, real or imagined.

But who is this man and how did he get to such a prominent place of fame, rather "infamy", in the Truth movement?

That will be the subject of this blog, a fascinating look into the behind the senses workings of a pariah in the making, as we record our research into this extrodinary man. These facts are known at this date, however:

Nico Haupt, born Nicolai A. Haupt, immigrated from Germany in 2000 to work for Josh Harris, the founder of pseudo.com and Jupiter Communications, in New York City.

Josh Harris himself is a rather colorful figure, making a name for himself not only as a dot com entrepreneur, but, through a Jupiter subsidary that was to eventually be renamed psuedo, he also made a name for himself as a host of some bacchanal revelries. Clearly this was a man who was not afraid to take risks, in his personal or public life. In fact, he had at one point gone to extraordinary lengths to make his personal life as public as possible when he set up
www.weliveinpublic.com.

That Nico would fall in with a fellow eccentric soul is hardly surprising. But did he have any inkling of what was in store for him when he came to the States? Almost a year later would come the 9/11 attacks,a catalyst that would thrust the German emigre into the beginnings of the 9/11 Truth Movement. And, while many Stateside see Nico as a kind of Trojan Horse...claiming to be a 9/11 activist, but then shocking the world with positions no 9/11 activists takes seriously...continental observers are quite sceptical of the of his stated positions. Sven T at Mosaik911 speculates on Nico's true purpose:

Certainly the stories he used to write, like this, are a far cry from the TV-video fakery he peddles these days:

Truther? Sceptic? Sceptic pretending to be Truther? Or does he have another angle? Just what is Nicolai Haupt's game?

We hope to answer that and other questions and we explore the extraordinary past of self acclaimed Truthling sceptic Nico Haupt.
